Confidence on any road, comfort in any situation and perfected handling at every turn – all this is about them, the legendary Mitsubishi SUVs. They are appreciated for their sleek design, excellent cross-country ability, luxury equipment, power and thoughtfulness to the smallest detail.
The new flagships of the Jeep brand are designed to compete with large and expensive SUVs. Wagoneer will be an alternative to the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia, and the Grand Wagoneer will compete for buyers’ wallets with the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali and Lincoln Navigator.
The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer have the same body and dimensions: length – 5435 mm, width – 2123 mm, height – 1920 mm, wheelbase – 3124 mm. The design leaves no doubt that Jeep cars are in front of the reviewer, while there is not a single mention of the brand on the body, and only the model name is applied on the hood, fenders and the fifth door.
Both outside and inside, the new SUVs echo in some design elements the original Jeep Grand Wagoneer, which was produced from 1984 to 1991. This is a characteristic glazing, a two-spoke steering wheel and a specific shape of ventilation deflectors. The standard equipment includes a virtual dashboard on a 10.3-inch display and a Uconnect 5 media system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen. Already in the basic equipment of the junior “SUV” upholstery of the interior elements in nappa leather is included.
The three-row Wagoneer model starts at $ 58,000. She can have eight or seven seats if there are separate chairs on the second row instead of a sofa. The volume of the cabin is 5.08 cubic meters, behind the full third row for three adult passengers, a trunk with a volume of 776 liters is provided.
The new Jeep is based on the chassis of the Ram 1500 pickup, but instead of a continuous rear axle, SUVs have a more comfortable independent five-lever, and in front – a two-lever. The “base” offers a spring suspension with a ground clearance of 211 mm, and as an option – a Quadra-Lift air suspension with the possibility of increasing the ground clearance to 257 mm.
The Jeep Wagoneer will be fitted with a 5.7-liter V8 petrol engine (397 hp, 548 Nm) with a starter-generator. It is combined with an eight-speed “automatic”. The basic version is rear-wheel drive, but a choice of various all-wheel drive modifications is also possible: Quadra-Trac I with a clutch in the front wheel drive, Quadra-Trac II with a reduction gear, Quadra-Drive II, which is also equipped with a rear differential lock.
Jeep Grand Wagoneer is distinguished by abundant chrome, slightly different bumper design, headlight structure, hood shape and radiator grill. But there are more differences inside: finishing materials are more expensive, screens are larger and there are more of them, the audio system is more advanced and powerful, and separate second-row seats are installed by default. Such an SUV costs from 87 thousand dollars.
In addition, the Grand Wagoneer has a more efficient 6.4-liter V8 engine (477 hp, 617 Nm) in combination with an 8-speed “automatic”. The default is a Qudra-Trac II all-wheel drive transmission with crawler gear and air suspension. And on the model with the Grand attachment, they will immediately install adaptive cruise control with a lane hold function, which is an additional option for just a Wagoneer.
The Jeep Wagoneer and the 2022 Grand Wagoneer are now available to order in the US. The first deliveries to customers will begin closer to the summer.
